Our agency was founded in 1968 by Ray Scurlock, and became Scurlock-Tyler in 1983 when Phil Tyler joined the firm.  Ray retired in 1991 and the agency name was changed to Tyler Insurance Services, Inc. in 1996.

Phil Tyler is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Business, the Washington D.C. Federal Reserve School for Bank Examiners, and the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance company School for Career Underwriters.

In 1985, Phil earned the (CIC) Certified Insurance Counselor designation and in 1987 was awarded the distinction of Certified Professional Insurance Agent, (CPIA).

He has served with the Union County Development Association since 1985, serving as it’s president for Four years.  He spent 14 years on the Greater Regional Medical Center Foundation Board, Eleven as it’s President.  He is currently serving on the University of Iowa’s Presidents council, the National I Club Board, and 20 years as the President of the SW Iowa I Club.  He has also been a Church trustee, an Elks trustee, President of Crestmoor Golf Club and a long time member of the Police and Fireman’s Pension Trust Board.

We are an independent insurance agency contracting with companies of our choosing.  Those companies must be competitive and provide outstanding claim service.
